Re: Mallorca
I very much enjoyed reading your trip report . I now live in Mallorca having been a London birder since the 1970´s.
I went to Albufera around the same time as you and saw pretty much the same as you did. I am however living in the south east of the island and have not been up north as much as I would like due to the constant stream of visitors. I do cover the Salinas in the south and have seen some very good birds. I also live just behind the National Park of Mondrago. They have a very good list of birds although I don´t know how as I have never seen another birder in the three months I have been going (most days) but there are many birds there not mentioned either in the guide or in Graham Hearls otherwise excellent book. I have seen Nightjars every evening including one larger bird which I suspect was red-necked. There are many pipits and larks in the fields and there have been some good falls of flycatches and chats so I really think this area could produce some very good birds.Golden orioles are seen sometimes and there are now quite a few waders on the torrent now that there have been some storms.
I would be very happy for any visiting birders to contact me and I will try to help with sites and what´s about. I have failed to see Rock thrush at Cuber reservoir although some birders say they are there. I think some were confused by the Blue rock thrush present in the same area.
Please do let me know if I can help any birders wanting to visit Mallorca. Kind regards Michael Montier
