Monday 28th August 2017 Cornwall Bird Sightings

Lands End – possible Melodious Warbler again in flight near bushes by car park. Sabine’s Gull (2. ad+juv) offshore at 1155hrs. Balearic Shearwater (3) flew past between 0715-0900hrs. Sooty Shearwater (60+) flew past this morning. Also Minke Whale (2)

Scillonian CrossingWilson’s Petrel at sea from Scillonian III. Also Storm Petrel (50+), Great Shearwater, Cory’s Shearwater, Sooty Shearwater (2), Balearic Shearwater and Arctic Skua (3)

Crackington HavenOsprey (2) flew over St Gennys at 1300hrs

The LizardOsprey (2) flew over Kennack Sands between 1340-1400hrs then flew east and lost to view (Thanks F.Trewin).

St JustOsprey flew NE over at 1115hrs. Tree Pipit (7) between Cot Valley and Nanquidno.

Wadebridge – Cattle Egret (7. 5 ads + 2 juvs) and Glossy Ibis (3) still at Walmsley Sanctuary. Also Wood Sandpiper, Hobby and Osprey flew over Trewornan Bridge. Osprey over Camel Estuary over opposite Camal Quarry

NanjizalMelodious Warbler seen briefly at Nanjizal Valley this morning. Please keep to public rights of way (Thanks K.Wilson)

PorthgwarraGreat Shearwater (9), Sooty Shearwater (11), Balearic Shearwater (3), ‘Commic’ Tern (7), Med Gull, Great Skua and Arctic Skua flew past Porthgwarra Cove between 0600-0800hrs. Wheatear (2) in valley, Greenshank and Whimbrel over (Thanks D.Flumm)

Nanjizal – Red-rumped Swallow at Nanjizal early afternoon. Also Blue Headed Wagtail. Keep to public rights of way

Polgigga – Pallid Harrier (juv) in fields south of Arden-Sawah flew towards Bosistow Lane at 1550hrs

Falmouth – Whiskered Tern still at College Reservoir at 0807hrs, still present this afternoon commuting between Argal and College reservoir tho mobile (Thanks B.Porter)whiskered-tern-m-halliday

PerranuthnoeHudsonian Whimbrel still in Boat Cove NT. Park in Perranuthnoe and take coastal path west to view.

Helston – Dalmatian Pelican still west end of Loe Pool on island 50 yards from shore at 1600hrs, then flew south and lost to view

Porthgwarra – Wholly unconfirmed report of Barolo Little Shearwater past Gwennap Head at 1320hrs. Wryneck by coastguard cottages. Pied Flycatcher at 60 foot cover. Cory’s Shearwater (18), Great Shearwater, Sooty Shearwater, Long-tailed Skua and Balearic Shearwater (90) flew past Porthgwarra by 1330hrs

DavidstowBuff-breasted Sandpiper at Davidstow Airfield. Ruff (2) between windsock and main road on central runway at 17:15

Lands End – Wryneck along cycle track between Sennen Cove and Land’s End

SaltashOsprey (2) at Kingsmill Lake

Hayle – Curlew Sandpiper (2 juv) at Hayle Estuary

Falmouth – Balearic Shearwater (2) flew past Pendennis Point at 0930hrs
