Todays bird sighting highlights from Cornwall include:

HelstonBonaparte’s Gull still at Helston Boating lake this morning. Cattle Egret (16) on south side of Loe Pool.

St ClementCattle Egret (10+) distantly in field with cattle at Menadews Farm at 1330 (Thanks T. O’Leary)

Newquay Cattle Egret by airfield at St Mawgan. Iceland Gull (3cy) and Yellow-legged Gull on Gannel Estuary

Thursday 26th May 2016 Cornwall Bird Sightings

DriftDalmatian Pelican (ad) still at Drift Reservoir this morning until 0925hrs then flew NW then returned to reservoir at midday. Black Kite also at Drift Reservoir at 06:50

The Lizard – Hoopoe at Coverack, 1 at Penhallick & 1 at Crousa Downs

TruroOsprey again at 0810hrs cicling over Truro River in front of Heron Inn then flew SSE. Also Red Kite (Thanks M.Salter)

PerranporthCuckoo (Male) in scrub around Cligga Head (Thanks J.Julian)

Helston – Black-throated Diver (2.adult and 1 juv.) off Loe Bar  (Thanks C.Mabon)

Saturday 14th May 2016 Cornwall Bird Sightings

SennenDalmatian Pelican circling over Skewjack pools at 0858hrs then over fields between Polgigga and Skewjack Farm between 1050-1100hrs then flew west (Thanks R.Veal)

Sancreed AreaDalmatian Pelican over A30 at Catchall between 1105-1120hrs then circling over Drift reservoir between 1120-1126hrs, over Sancreed between 1128-1130hrs. Still over Drift area view from Sancreed until 1540hrs when flew SW towards St Buryan. Bird did not land at Drift reservoir possibly due to fishing competition but spent between 1120-1540hrs soaring over reservoir or within nearby area (Thanks D.Flumm). Still this evening viewed at Lamorna Cove this evening from the Scillonian III. No sign of Great White Egret at north end of Drift Reservoir

Lands EndSerin still at Lands End singing this morning in horse paddock between car park and Swingates House. Also Turtle Dove (Thanks Bob). Whooper Swan flew over Treeve Common this afternoon. Black Redstart (female) foraging amongst boulders near Aire Point. Also Cuckoo (3) 2 chasing each other and 1 calling (Thanks R.Butterfield)

Lands EndHoopoe in horse paddock between car park and Swingates House this afternoon

Hayle Iceland Gull (juv) at Hayle Estuary RSPB from Lelant platform early afternoon. Also Spoonbill (imm)

DriftIceland Gull (juv) at Drift reservoir at North end

St Buryan Iceland Gull on plough at Treverven Campsite

Sancreed – probable Hen Harrier flew over road near radio station at 1635hrs

Friday 15th April 2016 Cornwall Bird Sightings

St Just – Snowy Owl below Carn Kenidjack 1/4 mile west of Boslow Farm, still present below Carn Kenidjack viewable form mast at 1700hrs

The Lizard – Iberian Chiffchaff (male) still at Little Treleaver from Ponsongath road 150yds beyond Heath Farm at 1210hrs

Nanquidno – Hoopoe south of Nanquidno Valley by road to Gurland Farm

HelstonWhooper Swan (ad) still at Boating Lake at 1530hrs

No sign of American Herring Gull at Drift Reservoir by early afternoon but Iceland Gull present

Thursday 9th April 2015 Cornwall Bird Sightings

St JustAMERICAN HERRING GULL (2w) still north of A3071, west of B3318 juncton in field at Jericho Farm early afternoon. WRYNECK at Kenidjack Valley early morning

Marazion – Probable BLACK KITE distantly towards Penzance at 1145hrs. Great Northern Diver & Sandwich Tern off Marazion. Bar-tailed Godwit on beach. (Thanks G.Metcalf)

Nanquidnopossible PURPLE HERON at Nanquidno Downs appeared to land near pool at 11:30. Ring Ouzel (male). White Wagtail at Tregiffian. White Wagtail at Gurland

St Erth  HOOPOE in garden this morning then flew south

Sennen – HOOPOE at Trinity Pool at 0845hrs then flew to Treeve Moor. Also Ring Ouzel (10) in Trinity Pool/Treeve Moor area

St Levan – HOOPOE in fields SW of Grey Gables

PolgiggaHOOPOE between Polgigga & Porthgwarra over road by Arden-Sawa Farm at 13:20, HOOPOE on west side of wash site at 18:20. Also Redstart, Ring Ouzel and Tree Pipit (4)

RedruthHOOPOE in garden off Park Road at 1900hrs

St Ives – WRYNECK (2) at Rosewall Hill at 1400hrs. One in gorse by pool at top and another flew to bottom of seaward slope. Also Ring Ouzel (5) at Buttermilk Hill at 17:00. Ring Ouzel (3) at Amalveor Downs in fields at top of valley at Amalveor/Foage (Thanks M.Halliday)

Hayle – Osprey flew over Hayle Estuary towards Copperhouse Creek at 1339hrs

PorthgwarraRedstart (2 fem) at Gwennap head

WadebridgeLittle Ringed Plover within the Amble Marshes/valley this evening. Also Green Sandpiper and White Wagtail (Thanks D.Julian)

Stithians – Slavonian Grebe at Stithians Reservoir at south end from Carnmenellis Causeway

FalmouthLong-tailed Duck (1w fem) still at Swanpool

DelaboleRing Ouzel (male) at Dannonchapel ruins

The LizardRing Ouzel (male) at Soapy Cove. Sandwich Tern (3) off Church Cove, Gunwallow at c10:30 (Thanks A.Clark)

Connor Downs – House Martin flew north over Treeve Lane, also Swallow, Jay and Cormorant (4).
