Monday 28th January 2008 – Cornwall Bird Reports

Todays Birding highlights in Cornwall include:

Tehidy Country Park – **HUME’S LEAF WARBLER** caught and ringed this morning. There are possibly two birds in the area. Also Firecrest.

Cot Valley **HUME’S LEAF WARBLER** still at top end of valley in area of Daisy Cottage.

Drift*CATTLE EGRET* (20) still at Treganhoe Farm. View from north of Sancreed Church.

MarazionICELAND GULL (2 juvs) on beach this afternoon. Also Water Pipit at Red River mouth and Black Redstart at little London, BT Diver (14), GN Diver (5) and Slav Grebe (3) in bay.

Mousehole – YELLOW BROWED WARBLER at Sheffield, from B3315 just south of Sheffield take footpath west over two fields and stile to view corner of field below quarry. ICELAND GULL roosting on St Clements Isle at dusk.

NewlynSTONE CURLEW SW of Newlyn just north of Kerris flew to standing stones in field briefly at 10.20hrs. SW.444.274. BN Grebe (2) still in Harbour and GN Diver (2). Black Redstart in Sandy Cove.

Stithians ReservoirRING-NECKED DUCK (fem) still in front of hide at 16.00hrs and showing well. Also Bittern reported at southern cuttoff 0900 – 1100hrs (thanks W.Fullman and S.Taylor)

Hayle Estuary Avocet still this morning on Carnsew Pool also Black-tailed Godwit, Golden Plover (300+), Grey Plover (20+), Greenshank, Med Gull (1ad+2.2w) and Kingfisher  (Thanks H.Cook)

GwithianLittle Gull (1w) still on main pool at St Gothian Sands NR.
