1st – 5th November 2009 Cornwall Bird Reports

Swallow, Merlin, Black Redstart and 2 Chiffchaff were at Sancreed on the 1st (Thanks D.Flumm) and the GREENISH WARBLER was last seen on this date at Church Cove. A CASPIAN GULL was again at Sennen Cove.  An adult AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER was dicovered with 2,000+ Golden Plover near Dozmary Pool on the 2nd and a Red-throated Diver on Colliford Lake (Thanks S.Votier) and a possible PACIFIC DIVER was off Long Rock Beach. The Raddes Warbler remained at St Levan until at least the 3rd and the Spoonbill was still on the estuary at Hayle. A Yellow-Browed Warbler was at Polgigga on 3rd. A CATTLE EGRET was at Landulph in a field near Kingsmill Lake on the 4th and 5th. Black Redstarts were at Lelant (3), Connor Downs, St Ives (2+), Penzance (3), Church Cove, Sennen, Polgigga (6), Porthcurno and Marazion.

Seawatching at Sennen, Rumps Point and St Ives over the last five days produced Little Auks, Grey Phalaropes, Red-throated, Black-throated and Great Northern Divers, Balearic Shearwaters, Pom and Great Skuas and thousands of Kittiwakes.

The CASPIAN GULL was again at Sennen in field behind the Post Office late afternoon on the 5th.
