PELAGICS

Cornwall Birding Pelagics will be sailing from Smeaton’s Pier, St Ives at 5.00am on Wednesdays and Saturdays from mid-July to early September 2010 aboard ‘Prime Time’ and heading for 7 miles NNW. Once there we will get some ‘chum’ overboard and see what we attract. We aim to be back in the harbour at about 10.45 am. We have a 100% success rate with Wilson’s Storm-petrels. The first (and second) Pelagic in 2009 scored with two Wilson’s Storm-petrels within 30 minutes of the ‘chum’ going out! After a while we will then head back towards land, stopping to ‘chum’ again off St Ives Island in the area where good numbers of shearwaters are seen from land. Then back to St Ives Harbour for 11am. All chum is provided by us and chumming done by the skipper, Pete. Thanks to M.Stevens and Son of St Ives for providing the Mackerel!!

‘Prime Time’
The boat is a fishing/pleasure boat licensed to carry 12 persons to a distance of 20 miles offshore. We have a very experienced skipper in Pete Freeman. There is a toilet on board and heated ‘out of the weather’ seating area.

Smeatons Pier and Parking
The pier is the longest one in the harbour, with the lighthouse on the end and is reached by going along The Wharf (seafront road) and simply following the road round to the pier. There is a car park on Smeaton’s Pier but does cost £6.50. There are plenty of other public car parks in St Ives, the closest being St Ives Island.

In the event of cancellation due to inclement weather, we will notify you 24hrs before we set sail. Cheques will not be cashed until after the Pelagic and will be shredded if it is cancelled. The only other reason for cancellation will be if the trip cannot be filled.(Minimum of 10 persons needed to sail) Monies will not be refunded if you do not turn up on the day.
