The BIRDWATCH BIG DAY 2008

With more sponsors, extra catagories and a new name, this years Bird Race 2008 loks set to be the most succesful yet. The event has been restyled with the new name and extra catagories that include Gardenwatch – designed to appeal to everyone in the family……

This years theme involves the critically endangered Azores Bullfinch, a close relative of our own Bullfinch which today only numbers around 340 individual birds and occurs only on the island of Sao Miguel. All proceeds from the Birdwatch Big Day 2008 are being channelled into this critical conservation work, and you can help by taking part and raising funds.

The Cornwall Birding team have undertaken the Bird Race in two previous years and managed to get the covetted ‘Rarest Bird Seen on the Day’ Title in 2005 with the Newlyn Spotted Sandpiper. It is a worthy cause and a great day out (on condition you dont encounter fog as in previous years in Cornwall!!).
