On This Day in History – 22nd September

Another busy September day starting with a Long-billed Dowitcher at Treweege Barton in 1976 until 30th September. A Blue-winged Teal was at Upper Tamar Reservoir in 1983 and at nearby Davidstow Airfield there was an American Golden Plover in 1982 and a Baird’s Sandpiper in 1981. A Least Sandpiper remained until 4th October on the Hayle Estuary in 1993 and a Spotted Sandpiper was at Drift ten years earlier in 1983. The latter remained until 3rd December. On the Hayle Estuary on this date in 1982 both White winged Black Tern and Citrine Wagtail were available to see, the latter remaining to the following day.
