On This Day in History – 19th April

Two Black-winged Stilts were on the Hayle Estuary in 1958 and the same site held an American Golden Plover in 1985. Marazion pulled out a hat-trick of rare birds on this date with a Gull-billed Tern in 1987, a Red-rumped Swallow in 2003 and two Kentish Plover on the beach in 2006. A CANVASBACK at Par Beach Pool in 2000 was the first record of this species for the county. Elsewhere a Common Crane at Nanjizal in 2007 did a tour of the west being seen at Polgigga, Porthcurno and Crows-an-wra.
