On This Day in History – 17th September

A busy rarity day today with a first for the county in the shape of a  Semipalmated Sandpiper at Hayle Estuary in 1978 and another at Drift in 2004, a Long-billed Dowitcher at Davidstow and Crowdy Reservoir for six days in 1994 and a Wilson’s Phalarope was at Sennen in 1981.  Elsewhere a Rose-coloured Starling was at Towednack in 1991, a White-winged Black Tern graced the Tamar Estuary in 1991 also and a Bonelli’s Warbler at Porthgwarra in 1989 stayed until 30th.
