On This Day in History - 16th September

White-rumped Sandpiper day today with two birds at Hayle Estuary, one in 1978 stayed for two days and a more obliging individual in 1982 that remained until 3rd October. A Wilson’s Phalarope was on the Camel Estuary in 1989. An American Golden Plover was at Nanjizal in 2002 and a Black Stork was at Porthcurno in 2007. Also in 2007 a first for mainland Britain was found in the shape of a Madeiran Petrel off Pendeen. A Greenish Warbler was found at Pendeen in 2008 ironically by the same birder who found the Madeiran Petrel!
