On This Day in History – 13th October

Some exceptional rarities have turned up on this date in history. A Black Stork was at Porthcurno and then Porthgwarra in 1993 and Radde’s Warbler was at Cot Valley in 1985. The 1968 influx of Nutcrackers continued with a single bird at Par Beach. The Americans put in an amazing run on this date with Long-billed Dowitcher, 2 birds, at Stithians in 1975 and a Red-eyed Vireo was at Porthgwarra in 1991. A Yellow-billed Cuckoo was at Pendeen in 1985 but was completely overshadowed the same day by Britains first WILSON’S WARBLER at Rame Head. A NORTHERN PARULA was the 3rd record for Cornwall at Nanquidno in 1987.
