On This Day in History – 10th October

A very busy rarity day with eleven species recorded. Two more Glossy Ibis were at Upper Tamar Lake, part of a small influx in 1986. Tamar Lakes also held Blue-winged Teal in 1989 and another was at Tehidy Country Park in 1995. A Black-winged Pratincole was a nice surprise at Sennen in 1993 and a Long-billed Dowitcher was at College Reservoir in 1979. Other waders included a Lesser Yellowlegs at Hayle Kimbro, The Lizard in 1980 and more recently a Spotted Sandpiper reported at Kenidjack in 2006. The latter site also produced a Siberian Stonechat in 1991. A Red-eyed Vireo was at Trevose Head in 1983 and a Little Bunting was at Brew Pool Sennen in 2002. Nanquidno produced a Western Bonellis Warbler in 2002 and a Subalpine Warbler in 2005.
