On This Day in History - 25th May

A Black Kite was over Marazion in 1991 and a Little Bittern was at Porthgwarra. An adult Squacco Heron was at Lamorna Cove in 2001 and Stithians Reservoir held a Black Duck in 2002.

On This Day in History - 24th May

A LITTLE SWIFT was reported at the Hayle Estuary in 2002. One had been on the Scillies a few days before.

A Black Stork was at Ladock in 1977 and an American Wigeon was somewhat unseasonal on the Hayle Estuary in 1993.

An Alpine Swift was at Saltash in 1972

A Red-footed Falcon was at Porthgwarra in 1992.

On This Day in History - 20th May

In 1989 there was a Black Kite at Porthgwarra and a Red-footed Falcon at Trevose Head. A White-winged Black Tern was at Marazion in 1980 and a Black-headed Bunting was at Gwithian in 1992. Rarest by far was the ORPHEAN WARBLER at Saltash  for two days in 1991.

A Little Bittern was at Stithians Reservoir in 1979 remaining until 29th.

On This Day in History - 18th May

A Scop’s Owl was at Saltash in 1974 and a Subalpine Warbler was at Porthgwarra in 1975. A Red-footed Falcon was on the Lizard at Goonhilly Downs in 1980 and a Black Kite was at St Buryan in 1994. A Marsh Warbler was at Treveal Valley in 2002.

On This Day in History - 17th May

A Black Kite was over Porthgwarra in 1975 and a Red-rumped Swallow was at Rinsey Head in 1977. A Blue-winged Teal was at Newquay in 1988.

On This Day in History - 16th May

A Little Swift was at Skewjack in 1981 and a Citrine Wagtail was at Marazion in 2002.

On This Day in History - 15th May

Four Black-winged Stilts were at Par Beach in 1987 and a single bird was at Marazion in 1992. Another White-winged Black Tern was at Crowdy Reservoir in 1979 and a Great-Reed Warbler was at Marazion in 1962.

On This Day in History - 14th May

A quiet day compared to yesterdays date with Red-throated Pipit at Marazion in 1990 being the only rare bird found.

On This Day in History - 13th May

A busy date for rarities with a Squacco Heron at Towednack in 1992 and a Red-footed Falcon at Croft Pascoe in 1988. Also in 1988 there was a Subalpine Warbler on the Lizard and a Great Reed Warbler at Crowan Reservoir. A Broad-billed Sandpiper was on the Hayle Estuary in 1980 and two White-winged Black [...]

On This Day in History - 12th May

An Iberian Chiffchaff was at Dunmere Wood, Bodmin in 2000, remaining until 5th June. Two Bee-eaters were at St Erth in 2002. A Desert Wheatear was at Lands End in 2007.

On This Day in History - 11th May

Little Bitterns were at Sithney in 1964 and Bude in 1958 and a Squacco Heron was at Drift Resrvoir in 1994. A Long-billed Dowitcher was on the Estuary at Hayle in 1970 but by far the best rarity found on this date was the NORTHERN ORIOLE at Bodmin Moor in 1968.

A White-winged Black Tern was at Tamar Lakes for three days in 1993

On This Day in History - 9th May

A Spotted Sandpiper was at Upper Tamar Lakes for seven days in 1987.

On This Day in History - 8th May

Very little in the way of rarities on this date with just a Red-rumped Swallow at Lands End in 2003.

On This Day in History - 7th May

A Laughing Gull was at Polperro in 1990.

On This Day in History - 6th May

A Ballions Crake at Stithians Resrvoir in 1995 was the first county record of this species. We still await the second!
