A Rose-coloured Starling was at Helston in 1984 and a SOFT-PLUMAGED PETREL was seen by seawatchers at Gwennap Head, Porthgwarra in 1996.

A ‘biggie’ in the wader department was the LONG-TOED STINT at Marazion in 1970. The bird stayed for only two days. Another is long overdue.

A Red-footed Falcon was at St Colomb Major in 1994 and Marazion held a Black-winged Stilt for two days in 1963. A Red-headed Bunting at Menheniot in 1993 was resigned to Catagory ‘D’ by the BBRC.

A Great Reed Warbler was at Marazion for three days in 1963.

A Red-footed Falcon was at Croft Pascoe, The LizardĀ in 1989 until 5th.

No rarities have been found on this date in Cornwall.

A Red-footed Falcon was at Bearah Tor in 1985 and an Alpine Swift was at Sennen in 2002.

A BLUE-CHEEKED BEE-EATER was star find at Kennack Sands in 1989. A Great-white Egret was at Marazion in 2002 and a Dusky Warbler was at Coombe, Fowey for twenty days in 2004.

A Squacco Heron was at Portmellon in 2004 until 4th June.

On This Day in History – 30th May

A LESSER KESTREL was at St Ives in 1968.

On This Day in History – 29th May

A Great Reed Warbler was at Par Beach in 1960 and a Collared Pratincole was at Hayle Kimbro, The Lizard in 1973. There was a Night Heron at Skewjack in 1984 and ten years later a Roller was at Penlee Point in 1994. A Black Kite was at Poligga in 2003.

On This Day in History – 28th May

A Whiskered Tern was on the River Amble in 1958 and a Black-eared Wheatear was at Kelsey Head in 1985.

On This Day in History – 27th May

Equal with the 13th May as the busiest for rarities, the 27th May producedĀ Red-footed Falcons at Delabole in 1989 and at Croft Pascoe in 1990. In 1993 there was a Black Kite at Porthgwarra and a Black-headed Bunting at Rame Head. A Whiskered Tern was at Marazion in 1964 and a Great-spotted Cuckoo was at Gwithian in 1973. The Lizard held a Dark-eyed Junco in 1983.

On This Day in History – 26th May

A very obliging male Little Bittern was at Swanpool in 2003, remaining to 7th June. Elsewhere, a male Black-headed Bunting was reported from Nanjizal in 2000.
