Sunday 10th August 2008 - Cornwall Bird Reports

Todays Birding highlights in Cornwall include: 

Antony Little Egret (14), Greenshank (2) and Crossbill over Wacker Quay today (Thanks D.Julian)

Torpoint - Med Gull (13), Sandwich Tern (8), Redshank (29), Ringed Plover (12), Dunlin (2) and Little Egret (2) from Marine Drive. (Thanks D.Julian)

Looe - Turnstone (5), Ringed plover (3), Little Egret (3) and Sandwich Tern (3) at Hannafore (Thanks D.Julian)

Sennen - Med Gull (5) in Cove this morning

Drift Reservoir - Med Gull (ad) at south end of res. this morning.

Scillonian III Pelagic

Todays all day Pelagic on board the Scillonian III appears to have got off to a bad start with the boat having to dock at St Mary’s, IOS. A passenger on board fainted, banged their head and needed medical attention! Four Cory’s Shearwaters had been seen up to 0900hrs.

Other species seen were: Great Shearwater, Grey Phalarope, Great and Arctic Skua, Manx Shearwater, Sooty Shearwater and Storm Petrel. A single Wilson’s Petrel was seen by a handful of birders. (Thanks S.Taylor)

Seawatching - Sunday 10th August 2008

Todays Seawatching highlights in Cornwall include:

Porthgwarra - Cory’s Shearwater reported off Gwennap Head. Also Sooty Shearwater (1), Balearic Shearwater (4), Great Skua (3), Storm Petrel (15), Arctic Skua (2) and Manx Shearwater (100+)

Rame Head - Balearic Shearwater (8), Storm Petrel (2) and Manx Shearwaters up to 11.45hrs.

Pendeen - Great Shearwater west past Pendeen watch at 11.45hrs. Cory’s Shearwater past at 15.35hrs.

Newquay - Storm Petrel past Towan Head this evening

St Ives (1200 - 1530hrs) - Balearic Shearwater (4), Arctic Skua (2), Storm Petrel (7) from St Ives Island
