Truro - *AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER* in ploughed field at Shortlanesend with 300 Golden Plover.
Sennen - **BLYTH’S PIPIT** still near school in cabbage field and Richards Pipit.

Sennen – **BLYTH’S PIPIT** NE of Sennen in field behind church then lost to view mid afternoon. Plus Richards Pipit at same location.
Truro – *AMERICAN GOLDEN PLOVER* juv 3mls north of Truro and 1.5mls NW Shortlanesend south of A30 in ploughed field east of B3284 with 300 Golden Plovers

A Blue-winged Teal was at Marazion in 1978 and two American Golden Plovers were at Crows-an-wra in 1971. A Lesser Yellowlegs was at the Gannel Estuary in 1982 and a Boneparte’s Gull was at Newlyn in 1967 and Cot Valley held a Grey-cheeked Thrush in 1986. The one that got away came in the form of [...]

A Franklin’s Gull flew past Sennen cove in 2006. An Orphean Warbler at Porthgwarra in 1967 was the first record for Cornwall and only the third for Britain.

A good day for Yanks again on this date with Long-billed Dowitchers at Davidstow in 1984 and 1985, a Franklin’s Gull on the Hayle Estuary in 1994, Grey-cheeked Thrush at Bosigran Castle in 1986 and Swainson’s Thrush at St Just in 1979. Porthgwarra turned up the mega’s with Chimney Swift in 1982 and American Redstart [...]

A Wilson’s Petrel was seen off St Ives Island in 1970 and a Baird’s Sandpiper was at Marazion in 1965. A Pechora Pipit was a two day bird at Land’s End in 1990 but the Dusky Warbler at St Leven was more obliging staying until 28th.

Marazion - Hoopoe reported flew east over sanctuary area. Jack Snipe (1). Long-eared Owl intop of conifers along track to hide.
Sennen Cove - Yellow-legged Gull (2) on Cowloe off Lifeboat Station. Probable CASPIAN GULL (2w) still [...]

St Mary’s - BLACKPOLL WARBLER (2) still, GREY-CHEEKED THRUSH, RB Flycatcher (2), Richards Pipit over watermill flew towards Tolls Island and another by telegraph just west of Longstone track. RADDE’S WARBLER at Porth Helick Pool from seaward hide at 16.55hrs.

A comparitively quiet day for rarities on this date. An American Wigeon was at Stithians in 1988 and a Rose-coloured Starling was at St Levan in 1993. Fourty-three years ago in 1964, a White-rumped Sandpiper was at Devoran. Bird of the date however goes to the Sociable Plover at Davidstow Airfield in 1987.

St Mary’s - BLACKPOLL WARBLER still on the Garrison by track to pottery at 09.00hrs. Short-toed Lark still on Airfield between windsock and turning circle. RB Flycatcher (ad.male) still Newford Duck pond. Woodchat Shrike still Pelistry Lane. Little Bunting still Peninnis Head on west side in 2nd [...]

A Long-billed Dowitcher was at Marazion in 1981 and an Alpine Swift was at the same site in 1969. A CHIMNEY SWIFT was over Truro in 1987 and a Siberian Stonechat was at Kenidjack in 1990. Pipits on this date were represented by Olive backed’s at Pogigga and st Leven in 1993 and Red throated [...]

The Blyth’s Pipit on Tresco could have proved a little harder to see today had it not been for the goodwill of the Staff and Children at Tresco and Bryher Primary School. They agreed to have playtime elsewhere so that the Pipit wasn’t flushed.

The yanks were again out in force today with American Golden Plover at Davidstow Airfield in 1987, Lesser Yellowlegs at Stithians in 1969, Red-eyed Vireo at Trevail in 1987 and last but certainly not least, a NORTHERN PARULA at Penlee Point in 1985. Radde’s Warblers were at Porthgwarra in 1988 and Nanjizal in 1989.
