A much busier day for rarities than yesterday. American Golden Plovers were at Lands End in 1987 and Davidstow Airfield in 1983, the latter remaining until 11th October. A fairly quiet day today with Greenish Warbler at Nanquidno in 1984 and a Red-eyed Vireo at Porthgwarra in 1988, being the only two rarities.

An American Golden Plover was at Predennack in 1985 until 1st October and a Baird’s Sandpiper was at Marazion in 1981. A Spotted Sandpiper graced the Lynher Estuary in 1990. A Nutcracker at Feock was part of the 1968 explosion of this species into the country. Can’t wait for the next one!!

In 1981 there was an American Wigeon at Hayle and a Wilson’s Phalarope at Bude. A Red-eyed Vireo was at Sennen in !982.  A Subalpine Warbler was at Treen in 1992 until 30th and a Rose-coloured Starling was at Nanquidno in 1993.

Hayle Estuary - Red-necked Phalarope reported at 17.00hrs on Ryan’s Field, tho mobile. NOTE: Spring high tide tomorrow. RSPB are keeping water from entering Ryan’s field so waders have somewhere to roost. Also Arctic Tern (juv) and Gannet (ad) from Old Quay house Car Park (thanks M.Halliday)

Here are the long awaited shots (courtesy of Nick Bond) of the possible Semipalmated Sandpiper at Carnsew Pool on 22nd August 2007. The bird was eventually flushed by a peregrine, but general concencus leaned towards Semi P at the time. What do you think? Let us know your thoughts HERE at Cornwall Birding.
