Two Blue-winged Teals on this day in history, one at Stithians in 1976 and one at Tamar Lakes in 1989. A Baird’s Sandpiper was at Ruan Lanihorn in 1980 and a Wilson’s Phalarope was found on the Hayle Estuary in 1987.

Seawatching at Gwennap Head proved fruitful in 1988 with a Black-browed Albatross. A Wilson’s Phalarope was on the Hayle Estuary in 1977 and remained for five days. Star bird for this date though is undoubtedly the NORTHERN MOCKINGBIRD at Saltash in 1982.

Marazion Marsh - PECTORAL SANDPIPER on exposed mud at SE of marsh this morning but flew onto beach and not relocated. Spotted Crake (2) tho elusive.

A Gull-billed Tern was at St Ives in 1967 and an Alpine Swift was recorded at Crantock in 1985.

St Mary’s - Melodious Warbler at Longstone at 14.00hrs then flew towards Holy Vale. Osprey (juv) at Porthellick Pool again.

St Mary’s - Grasshopper (1) and Nightingale (1) at Parting Carn

An American Golden Plover  at Stithians Reservoir in 1975 remained until 1st October.  There was a Solitary Sandpiper at Drift Reservoir in 1980 that stayed in the are until 1st September and a Bonelli’s Warbler was at Land’s End in 1989.

A good historical day for Marazion with Great Reed Warbler in 1977 and Citrine Wagtail in 1986. Elsewhere a Citrine Wagtail was at Drift Reservoir in 1984 and a Black Stork was recorded at St Buryan in 1991.

This evenings pelagic from St Mary’s produced WILSON’S PETREL (7), Storm Petrel (30+)
